Spinal Cord Injury

Brain and Spinal Cord Injury

Frequently there is no visible head injury, yet there can be serious brain damage to the person involved in the accident. Unfortunately, traumatic brain injuries, particularly those involving "closed head" impacts, often go undiagnosed in the emergency room and other post-accident medical settings. In many cases, a person with a closed head traumatic brain injury may not even realize at first that they have been injured because a closed head traumatic brain injury often does not have obvious signs. Brain injuries can cause inability to concentrate and memory problems as well as depression, irritability, hearing or eyesight problems. They can have devastating lifelong effects on the physical and mental functioning of the survivor and his or her family.

Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) is damage to the spinal cord that results in a loss of function such as mobility or feeling. Traumatic impact as the result of a motor vehicle accident is one of the most frequent causes of spinal cord drama.
